About DuPont Photonics Located in the Boston suburb of Wilmington, MA, DuPont Photonics Technologies designs and manufactures dynamic optical components and modules for the global telecommunication and data communications optical networks. DuPont Photonics has developed powerful materials and device technologies that allow for creation of a library of proven optical building blocks (e.g., 1xN, MN and NxN switches, VOA, tap, tunable couplers, tunable filters, splitters, internal photodetectors, etc.). These building blocks, together with DuPonts planar lightwave circuit (PLC) integration technology, allow for serial and parallel integration of multiple functions on a single chip. One product configuration, the iOXC 888 incorporates the equivalent of 128 discrete functions in a single chip. The iOXC 888 comprises a fully non-blocking 8x8 switch with VOAs and power taps at each output port, allowing for automatically shuffling and balancing channels as wavelengths are configured, making it possible to remotely control network elements. The high level of integration dramatically reduces the cost, size and power consumption of the components, in addition to reducing the cost and complexity of system design and assembly.
